Neighborhood Spotlight: Little Chefs in Training...
Donning a Culinary Institute of America chef coat and a sharp knife (his newest and favorite kitchen utensil), two of Ridgefield’s newest “Little Chefs” are cooking up a storm!
His twin, dressed in her own CIA outfit, prefers using a whisk on most occasions to create her own delicious treats. “Salted chocolate chip cookies, orange sugar cookies, cinnamon rolls, salted caramel apple pie, and pancakes are some of the dishes Alice has cooked. Luke’s favorites are “baked ziti, pancakes, popovers, tacos, and French toast”.
WHO IS THIS DYNAMIC DUO?
Alice and Luke Lemmer are twins in second grade at Scotland Elementary School and are spending some of their time, when at home during COVID, honing their cooking skills.
At two and a half years old mom started baking with them. And most recently there has been more time to work on their culinary skills.
When asked how they decide what they are going to make, Alice replied, “I usually ask Mommy and we come up with something together. Unless it’s cookies, because I ALWAYS decide when we make cookies.”😊
Luke occasionally uses his “kid cookbook” to find a recipe.
Their top two recipes to try in the upcoming month are crepes and macaroons says the twins. Hopefully I will get to do a sampling of some of their creations one day.
WHAT DON'T THEY LIKE TO EAT?
All chefs have at least one food item that they have tasted yet is not high on their list.
When I asked Alice she stated, “Um, I don’t really like pineapple. It always makes my tongue feel weird.” And Luke.... well..., “Raw oysters. I was brave and tried one in Cape Cod when I was five, but I had to spit it out. It tasted like squishy salt that is yucky.”
THEIR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS?
Hands down they have favorite restaurants in town. Luc’s and Sucre Sale in Ridgefield are on the top of the list.
Although Luke says 850 does have a great S’mores pizza.
Another one of Luke’s recommendations is Mama’s Fish House in Maui if you ever get to travel there, “because it’s where I had my first tomato soup and it is right on a beach that had sea turtles.”
Not only do these kids have good taste in food, they know that atmosphere is important.

As we can see, the year 2020 has not been without its advantages. There has been time to cultivate life skills and be with family. What are you and your kids going to create today?
